Making money when you cant find a job -

Some people are so highly employable that the moment word gets out that they don't have a job, there are offers flowing in from everywhere.

However the reality is that for most of us there is stiff competition for any job, never mind the good ones! And what happens to you, the day you land up stuck at home because your employer went bankrupt overnight and suddenly there are another 500 people out there competing against you in an ever shrinking job market.

I tend to balk when I hear people ask me if I don't miss having a stable steady job. Look at it this way. If you have a "stable steady job" and you didn't get up for work every day, would it be a stable steady job? What if you got ill and couldn't work for several weeks?  How much do you do know about your employers financial health? how much control do you have over the growth of your income proportionate to the effort you put into it?

Most self employed people will tell you that by putting the same amount of time and effort into self employment as a regular job they may not initially earn the equivalent income, yet the control they have over their lives is exponentially greater and they can make long term decisions for themselves. No more asking permission to go on holiday or take a day off.

But what can you do, if you suddenly find yourself without an income and bills to pay. Here are a few simple steps:

1. Assess your resources. Can you work from home? Do you have a vehicle? What are your skills? What equipment and tools do you have?

2. If you are reading this you either have a computer or at the very least have access to one. And furthermore you are able to access the internet. This is a valuable skill and tool in developing an income source.

3. Provided that you can use the English language (or your home language elsewhere) in a skilled and sufficiently proficient manner, you can get work online. This is particularly valuable for individuals who suddenly find themselves stuck at home (possibly on long term sick leave) and unable to commute to gainful employment. using your command of good language and grammar there are plenty of agents outsourcing written work in all shapes and forms. e.g. I outsource review writing. I get to read lots and lots of books and then to write about them as well, all from the comfort of my bed. As a person with a lifelong chronic condition, this means that I can do something that I love and be paid for it too.

4. Turn a hobby or pastime into money. Do you love woodworking/carving, papier mache, knitting, or craft. One of the best things my partner ever did was take over my kiln (I was a craftsman in another life) and use it to manufacture clocks from recycled bottles. The cash generated from the small online business saved us from homelessness and set us off to realise dreams.

5. Learn a simple craft. Read my small booklet on making money from nothing. This booklet is aimed at those who have really landed so deep in trouble that they need to seek resources that cost them nothing to lift them out of the financial mire they find themselves in. This booklet covers everything from making everyday household items from old newspapers, empty plastic bottles and the things that everyone else throws away.

6.Sharing a skill. Can you ride horses? Ride a bicycle? Or do you love children? Offer a service in the local free classifieds, youd be surprised how many liveries will look for someone merely to excercise a horse or even to help out with a large class in horse riding lessons. There are very busy parents, who dont have the time to teach their kids to ride bikes, and then there are even those who just need a break for a few hours.

Changing the Money

Have you stopped to think, why it is the banks and the government have so much power over the general population?

We agree to pay unreasonable taxes and unreasonable charges on energy and financial products because we find ourselves without a choice. We have to use their system to obtain and continue to receive basic life maintaining resources. Their system is based on money.

Without a bank account and card or cash we cannot buy gas, electricity, council tax and water utilities, we cannot go to the supermarket to buy food and we cannot pay for bus or train tickets to get to work or get home. We need the money system to buy clothes and shoes and to obtain dental and eye care. In fact basic items such as paracetamol or hair care has to be obtained by using the financial system that we have no choices over.

If we removed the financial system that is used by the government and the banks to control uss, then they lose their power to control us.

I can hear the reader sighing, easier said than done! Well actually now, we can empower ourselves and while it may take some effort to unravel ourselves, we can do it and today is the day to start. I would suggest having look at the one act a day page to get yourself going. This is particularly valuable not only for the unemployed that feel financially trapped, but even for those that go to work everyday and are either stuck in a dead end workerbee job for a large corporation or have work satisfaction but feel financially cornered.

To make a start, I'm going to suggest the following buy a packet of seeds. You can even do this online. If youre enthusiastic, buy one packet for every available windowsill. If you're on unemployment benefit, then start small but remember planting a packet of seeds that enables you to provide something to eat that would cost you ten times more to buy is the very first step to doing something for yourself!

Once you have done this number one step to self sufficiency, make a list. remember that you have skills that dont require a certificate that can make a huge difference. many people dont value their own worth. can you sew a button, or stictch up a gap in a seam? Yes? Then you can sew. Have you ever put flatpack furnitire together? yes? Then you can assemble furniture. What about skills that you havent thought about? Welding? Soldering? Can you do basic woodwork? Graphic design?

Make a list of what you can do like this.

  1. Cooking
  2. Baking
  3. DIY
  4. Radio enthusiast
  5. welding
  6. soldering
  7. knitting
  8. car repair
  9. hairdcutting
  10. babysitting
  11. dog walking/grooming
These are to name but a few. There are hundreds of things that we can all do. And all the things we do can become currency. If you can grow your own food, then you are no longer dependant on the currency system to ensure that you eat. If you grow enough for you and your family, and have some left over, you can swap what you have left over for someone elses excess produce, the food, not money then becomes the currency.

The same can be done, with anything else that we possess, whether it is a tangible asset or a skill. To take back our power we need to change the currency, and to change the currency we need to start somewhere small and simple like buying a packet of seeds.

Every time you buy something

All too often, too many of us are finding ourselves unemployed with no source of income. Most of us are prepared to put in an honest days work, for an honest wage. If you have joined the ranks of the disillusioned you have found the right spot in cyberspace. Just like you I am the 99%

In order to take back our world we need to understand and accept that it is controlled by money and those who have the money and control the money essentially have the control. This does not mean that we - the 99% will never have control. We can take control and here is how.

Remember that 99% of the money and land is controlled by 3% of the population. When we stop spending money with those businesses that benefit the 3%, we are effectively redistributing the liquid wealth across a wider group and enriching the 99%. There are many ways to reduce the power of the large companies, and thus those that control them.

  1.  Stop shopping at the big stores. As soon as your money enters the till at the likes of TESCO, Sainsbury's and ASDA, you are feeding the coffers of the powerful. Admittedly there are times when you have little choice because they also control the availability of certain products, but even when you have spend money with the big guys, there are ways to make sure they make less profit. Start buying your meat from the local butcher, greens from the local grocer. Dairies often offer local delivery and your local corner store will soon enough drop prices, the more people that buy bread from them. Get your birthday and Christmas gifts from local small businesses.
  2. When you have to buy from the big companies, use an affiliate link. You must however be sure that the link belongs to one of the 99%. There are alot of affiliate marketers out there reducing the profits of the big 3%. The more you use them, the less profit the big stores make, thus spreading the wealth. Many smaller websites such as ours link to the larger companies, forcing them to pay commissions when a customer buys a product through the link.
  3. Become active in passive protest. If half the country refused to pay their gas and electric bills for 90 days, it would cripple the energy companies. They need the cash flow to pay their employees and run their businesses. If their liquid capital dried up, it would force them into a position where they have to reduce prices. These things need to be done carefully. The energy companies would just as quick cut half the nations supply, but if we were prepared for it, took action 45 days each side of midsummer, heating would not be an issue, and loss lights a minimal inconvenience. As long as we were supporting local businesses access to fresh food would be easy and there are many ways to store milk and butter without electricity.
  4. Share the word. If everyone who reads this shares one affiliate link or one protest notice with one other person every day, and the person they share it with, passes it on the message tree grows exponentially and we take away the power of the few as we gain momentum.
  5. Recognise the 99%. The 99% are not only the homeless and jobless. Amongst us are new graduates, minimum wage employees, small business owners, lawyers, physiotherapists and doctors. Share with them, some will respond others will not, but share.
  6. Do one thing every day. Every time you buy something, if you can do it do it online, either with a small trader or an affiliate link. Talk about it at work, at the job centre and at school. Discuss it at the dinner table. Only one thing a day.
  7. Name and Shame. Our society is filled with 99%ers that are willing to do the dirty work of the 3%. these are the benefits agency and HMRC spies, the Social workers and other powerful professions that care only that they get their paychecks at the end of the month and that if the people they target go hungry - well tough. Parking attendants are not welcome in my shop. Why? because their job leads to the daily misery of others. Many are paid on a quota basis thus tempting them to dishonestly fine drivers (AS has happened to us too often to mention). There is nothing that a parking attendant does to make my life better. They serve only to enrich the local authority which withholds funds to support my disabled child's education, and they do the same to you. They choose to do this work, so I choose not to welcome them onto my business premises. I may a lose a few pounds here and there, but those that they hurt choose to shop with me first and it makes up for it. - Big Time.
